Having played RuneScape since 2004, I’m in love with the RuneScape Dragonwilds game. Everything from the visuals and gameplay to the sound design is amazing.
I recently became frustrated when I was playing OSRS on the side. When I tabbed out of Dragonwilds to click on a new tree every 30 seconds or so, the Dragonwilds audio would mute itself for those few seconds I was tabbed out. This took away from my immersion and I was disappointed that there is no in-game settings toggle for this like there are in many other games.
However, I found a fix that I’ve confirmed works and I can now happily play with the sound in the background when I’m doing something else. Here’s what to do.
- Go to %localappdata%\RSDragonwilds\Saved\Config\Windows in File Explorer.
- Open Engine.ini with Notepad.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Paths section.
- Add these two lines, ensuring there is a line break before and after this new section we’re adding.
[Audio]
UnfocusedVolumeMultiplier=1.0 - Save the file. Voila! Open Dragonwilds and the game audio will no longer mute itself when you tab out / when it’s not the active window.
