Install PHP 7.3 For WordPress (cPanel)

Tony
December 12, 2020

This is something I came across recently when setting up this website. At the time of writing, my host was Hostgator and I use cPanel to manage the backend.

Upon finalising the WordPress installation, I tried to access the website but was greeted by the message, “Your server is running PHP version 5.4.45 but WordPress 5.2.2 requires at least 5.6.20”. The website itself as well as wp-admin were inaccessible due to this.

Here’s how to fix it:

  1. Open cPanel and search for ‘PHP’
  2. Click MultiPHP Manager
  3. Check the box next to your website and then in the top right hand corner select the latest stable PHP version and then apply
MultiPHP Manager link
Selecting PHP version 7.3 through PHP Manager within cPanel
