Quick Guide to Restore Corrupt World Save in Palworld

Tony
January 27, 2024

I recently experienced the joy of my save in Palworld becoming corrupt (over 20 hours of work). Upon exiting the game, I received the following error message: “World Saving InProgress… Cannot Start Save World Data“. My game would then crash whenever I tried to load into the world again.

Here’s how I restored it:

  1. Type %localappdata% in the Windows Start Menu and press Enter on your keyboard.
  2. Open the following folders: Pal -> Saved -> SaveGames -> *numbers* -> *numbers and letters* -> backup.
  3. There will be two folders in here: local and world. Open the local folder and sort it by Date modified. From here, open the third folder from the top of the list. The point here is to not select the most recent which may be corrupt.
  4. Copy the LocalData.sav file and go back to the folder that contains the backup folder (as well as Players, Level.sav, LevelMeta.sav, LocalData.sav, and WorldOption.sav).
  5. Paste the LocalData.sav file here and overwrite the existing one.
  6. Go back into the backup folder and open the world folder. Again, sort it by Date modified and open the third folder.
  7. Copy all three files: Players (folder), Level.sav, and LevelMeta.sav.
  8. Go back into the folder that contains the backup folder.
  9. Paste all three items here and overwrite the existing ones.
  10. Open up Palworld and enter your world. It should now be restored to how it was before it became corrupt.

This worked for me and saved me the stress of starting a new playthrough. I hope it helps!
